The types of injection molding technologies used in the automotive industry
In the automotive industry, we usually find three main injection molding technologies, namely thermoplastic injection molding, elastomer injection molding, and thermosetting injection molding.
1. Thermoplastic injection molding
Thermoplastic injection molding is the most common type of injection molding in the automotive industry. It is used to produce parts made of thermoplastic materials such as polypropylene, nylon, and ABS.
Compared with other types of injection molding, this automotive molding technology has many advantages, including low cost, fast production speed, and versatility.
2. Elastomer injection molding
Elastic injection molding is used to produce parts made of elastic materials, such as rubber and silicone. It has many advantages similar to thermoplastic injection molding, including low cost, high production speed, and versatility. In addition, it can also provide excellent shock absorption and shock absorption functions.
3. Thermosetting injection molding
Thermosetting injection molding is used to produce components made of thermosetting materials, such as epoxy resin and polyester. This automotive molding technology has many advantages similar to thermoplastic molding, including precise dimensional tolerances and repeatability. However, compared to thermoplastic molding, it also has some advantages. It is not easy to melt or deform at high temperatures, which is the main reason why car manufacturers choose thermosetting injection molding.
